where is the XM box in an 2007 Convertible - also - is the antenna in the door mirrors ? Looking to get that SIR-GM1 kit to replace the XM junk in the vette.
The only problem I have with the XM is when I go under a lot of trees, the signal craps out - with my other vehicle with sirius - no problems in those areas.
thx for any help

The box is under the waterfall between the seats in a vert.
Antenna is in the drivers side mirror, but all you need to do is connect one lead (green I think, check FAQ's) to the new box under the waterfall.

Green is for the terrestrial antenna, you want the yellow/orange one for the SAT antenna. Both are in the mirrors.
You actually have to snap off the yellow/orange plastic part and then you have the standard issue connector that will plug into the SIRIUS Tuner.
You should secure this connection with either some heat shrink tubing or even electrical tape.
Another easy mod you might consider is adding an input for an IPOD/MP3 Player to the SIRIUS harness adapter. What makes it so easy is you can do the mod on the work-bench instead of in the car.
Well documented, search for 'aux in'.

Though now that **** Jockey mentions it I'm gonna change my mind - green = earth = terrestrial. But here's the problem... even using the factory mirrors Sirius reception will be far worse than XM. Compounding the problem is with the fibreglass body you can't magnetically couple an antenna so you don't have a ton of options. Sirius reception does vary a bit based on where you live, how much you have to deal with in the way of tree cover and overpasses but overall it's nowhere near as good as XM.
Now you refer to XM as crap but I'm not sure what crap means. For a few bucks more a month you can add best of Sirius to your XM radio and get all of the same programming on XM that you have on Sirius and you don't have to spend the time installing or the money on the hardware. Some people prefer the way Sirius sounds but to my ear Sirius is tinny and hissy where XM is compressed and muffled. Add to that the rather crap sound from both Delco & Bose systems you're not heading for high fidelity with either service.
There's my pair of pennies plus a few quarters.

What I have found regarding reception is that with XM the Sat's are parked above the equator and you can count on having a drop out almost every time there is a row of trees to the South. I'm in the Pacific NW so lots of trees out here in the sticks.
The SIRIUS Sat's are in orbit from pole to pole so some times you have a SAT 'directly' overhead and even in a dense forest you get reception with no drop outs.
Of course this is pretty random and XM does have more ground-based repeaters than SIRIUS. But if you are out away from the cities, these don't help either.
As far as SQ goes, and I use the term very loosely, I've found I can sorta deal with the 'tinny/hissy' SIRIUS signal with a little judicious EQ.
But I can't un-'compress'/un-'muffle' the XM signal, and I find that more objectionable.
So I'm in for $.52 as well.

sorry about the crap comment - what I meant was the signal drops way too much with XM - the signal does not drop with my sirius in the other vehicle I have.
I mostly listen to talk radio on Sirius - for music once in a while -

My *guess* here is that where you live Sirius reception may be a bit better than the Corvette's XM reception. Here in the NE I find that the Sirius in my Audi daily driver drops at least as much if not more than the XM does in my Vettes. I think *any* satellite reception in our cars will be worse on average than either flavor in steel bodied cars.Originally Posted by alandchris

To summarize my rambles... I strongly doubt switching to Sirius will improve reception in your Vette.
I recently switched from XM to Sirius. I used the antenna that came with the Sirius SCC1 tuner and, after much experimentation by driving around with it in different locations, located it at the base of the passenger side "A" pillar. Popped the trim off, stuck the "wart" antenna down in the corner and re-installed the trim). It is totally hidden and I very seldom ever experience a "drop out". Reception has been great.
