so I have an old apple tv 1 and apple airport express. I jailbroke the atv1 to have composite out with the plan to put it in my car along with the airport express so I can control it wireless from my iphone.
so i did some testing in my truck and found its not an instant on solution, and it generates allot of heat. what is a good solution to getting 110v pretty consistant to allow it to boot up without the car running or shut it down after the car stops? the atv1 is not like some of the other apple products that can run with a 12 volt adapter.
I just thought this would be pretty slick to hold all of my music and also some movies and such for playing at car shows thru my Z1 and LCD in the trunk.
other option im considering is a mac mini if i can pick up a used one cheap since they make a power supply for it that will start it up and shut it down when the car is started and turned off.
Other than connecting an AC inverter directly to the battery and manually starting/stopping the atv1, you're probably limited to devices that can boot or shutdown automatically with the accessory signal
even with the inverter connected directly to my battery in my truck, it wouldnt power the ATV long enough after i turned the key off to shut it down....
i might back burner this idea until i can get a mini

The only thing I can think of that would cause that is if your inverter has a built in 'battery run-down protection' that makes it turn off if your battery voltage drops below a certain point. Maybe the atv takes so much juice it won't work without the engine running, or maybe you just need a different inverter.

im gonna go with b, the atv1 only used about 18 watts, and the inverter is 400.
