Default Equalizer help

I am trying to find a post (with little luck) that broke down what each frequency on the equalizer adjusts. I would like to work more on fine tuning my install but I can't find this post. Does anyone have this information?

I am pretty sure every install I have done required some reduction in the 315 hz range, below and above it sometimes, sometimes centered a bit higher, usually a pretty good amount of reduction will really clear up the whole systems sound quality. To low things get a bit thin sounding and while tuning it might not be that thin but seems so as not used to it.

Basically, we hardly ever boost anything, if so be careful as easy to clip the amp or over drive the speaker, nearly always we lower the peaks already present caused by cabin gain, etc......

Our ears are weakest in the low and higher frequencies so most always we reduce the mid level, that is why we normally also see bass and high controls on HU but I wish most had at least a mid control to drop it.

Also at lower listening levels this is far more promenent, why loudness buttons are not linear, they are tied to the audio taper volume control so as we turn up the volume the lows and highs are boosted less, past a certain point not boosted at all.

-----------

To tune use a very good quality recording, listen a bit, any pressure you feel that is slightly uncomfortable, heaviness to the music, tweak it a bit, listen some more. Take many breaks, moderate volume level, etc...Tune again the next day, then the next, etc....

Use several different types of music, always the best recordings you can find, most pop country is of quality recordings whether you like the music or not(not my cup of tea)

Once you start getting it better you should find you can listen far longer, even louder, with far less fatigue to the ears as you are not pounding them with some freqs just playing way to loud.

------------

What a great post. I have been trying to get my sound to sound better in my new install and have been boosting some of the bands. I'll go back and try reducing some of the mid levels.

Any other advice? TIA

Turn the gains on the amps all the way down, then the HU up around 95%, turn up the gains until it starts to clip, then down to just below that level. This gives the most dynamic range out when cranked up but prevents clipping and overdriving things so less chance of damaging them.

Turn down the midrange as much as needed, try all the bands you have control over, listen carefully, do not tune more than one or two at a time, again, take lots of breaks, 10 minutes tuning, 10 - 20 minute breaks.

If you have storable tunes then do one for sitting still, engine off, one for engine on if you wish, then one while driving, be careful doing that one of course.

Take your time, do this over a period of time.

You can adjust the sub as you need when playing different tracks when done, I do all the time, track to track, disc to disc, etc.....

In some cases even using the loudness button is ok, give it a try on occasion.

When you get the system just the way you like it the best, perfect for you, may not be a competition tune, does not matter, as long as you have it best for you, cool
