Default Head Unit Upgrade

Hello all,
I have a 2000 with the tape deck option and rear mounted cd changer. I've been going through these forums for a while now and nothing really answers what I want to know directly so...

I want to upgrade the deck or atleast I want an auxillary input for my ipod or put in a deck that I can load the music into it with a thumb drive. I've installed a dozen or so decks in my cars and friends cars in the past, but reading these forums I'm not sure if what I'm looking to get into on this project is more involved than I've done in the past or it just seems that way. I want to do this without having to cut anything or otherwise customize the console or harness; using the harness kit to wire from the deck directly into the stock harness is the way I've always gone. I spoke with the local audio shop and they tell me that the a deck change will require all of the speakers to have to be replaced. That seems contrary to what I've read here. They also said that the harness will be cut as there is no wiring harness kit for the corvette with the bose system. I'm a little confused, no alot confused since I seem to have so much conflicting information so first question...

1-Almost all the posts refer to picking up an acc wire. Is there not an acc provided at the stock deck harness or is this a second line for something I'm overlooking? There always has been on any other installation I've personally done so that just seemed a little odd.

2-Every time I've done an installation in the past before I've even taken the console apart, I get the harness kit and wire that up. I'm used to just taking the dash apart, remove the old, plug in the new and thats it. Is the corvette radio in fact different with the bose system and other factors? Do I need some bose amplifier conversion as I've seen mentioned? Do I need to find a secondary acc lead?

I just don't want to start this project then spend weeks ordering what I need as I discover it.

Thanks in advance, Bryan

Go for it, I did exactly what you are talking about in my 08 and it was not a big problem, all you have to cut is a wire or two nothing major. I put a Pioneer Z120 in and could I could go back to the stock system in minutes, you don't have to cut a single connector off or any thing else you do have to splice into a couple of two wires depending on which accessories you have with your HU. Belive me I did not want to cut anything orginal on my car but the two wires I did were for the HU dimming circuit and the speed sensor, which I did not actually use, they are easy to get to was not big deal.
Talk to Dennis at Double D Mods, c5bearsfan here, he has everything you need. You will have every part you need before you start anything and remember the forum is always here. Its not a hard DIY project.
If you don't want to replace speakers you don't have to the new HU will play thru the stock ones, even the Bose set up.

That is mostly true in the C4, since you have a C5 you need to stay far, far away from that shop

That's pretty much what you'll do if you get the correct interface adapter. I also suggest that you give Dennis a call, he'll treat you right

Hey all,
Spoke to Dennis and he hooked me up; set up should be here tomorrow and the install will begin. Thanks for the help. For further reference if anyone has questions about upgrades, don't bother wasting your time at your local audio shop, best buy, etc. I got a ton of bad info; start with Dennis, he knows his s*** and he'll give you the best deal going. Thanks guys!
