I searched through the forums but wanted to get some feedback as I am getting some conflicting information.
I have a 2004 Z06 and 2 years back I had the stock headunit swapped out with a Pioneer Elite HU. The Audio Store back than told me the whole system had to be rewired to bypass the Bose Amplifer so it would work. After leaving, the bass was so low that I went and Best Buy installed a Infiniti Amp/Sub in One unit.
I am currently working on the car...fixing leaks and have all the panels off so thought it was a good time to swap the speakers. Can I just swap out the stock speakers with a pair of 3.5 and 5.25 speakers? I heard that I can just swap the speakers but when I went to purchase the speakers at the local shop today the guy told me I would have to have everything rewired again? Is that true?
If I can just swap them, do I need any adapters or I can cut off the Bose Connectors and wire directly to the new speakers? Why I'm at it, what is everyones opinion between Pioneer or Rockford Fosgates?
Where can I get the adapter plates? So I can just swap the speakers and cut the connector and wire it to the new speakers? No rewiring necessary? Why do all of these shops lie?
Most shops don't intentionally lie, they just never bother to research the new models. Most of what they told you is true for C4, but C5 is different, C6 changed again. Even now, in the 7th year of C6, many shops are still telling customers the C4 way of doing radio installs in C6.
If the current radio is playing through the current speakers and all you want to replace is the speakers, why would the current wiring not work? There is plenty of wire available to cut the oem and connect it to the new speaker wires.
If you have no intention of ever going back to stock setup (to sell or trade in car), then it's easy enough to splice in new wires. If you want to buy the adapters, get THESE.
Ok...so the rear speakers are obvious on how to splice. Can someone confirm that the Front Speakers should have the following spliced to get the Speakers wired:
