Default Replacing Bose, will this do the job???

I have a 90 Vert in need of at least 2 Bose Amp restorataions from Dr. Don (aand probably 4) cost approx $300.00 Plus my time..

the local Audio folks say thye can use the existing Bose wiring and suggest the folloing as "better than your Bose, but not a s good as sif you added an amp etc'

Here's their quote:

1 Alpine CDM7874 head unit $179
2 "Met Kit" 20 ea 40
1 Antenna adapter 15
1 Pair JL Coax 5.25 speakers 113
1 Pair Jl Coax 6.0 speakers 116
1 shop charge 5
1 Install Labor 160
tax 23.70
total 652.65

I TOLD em about the odd size head unit (didn't have the car ) and they said we can put a radion in any GM car no prob,, I asked about cutting the dash and they said they didn't have to do it..

I could add an AMP for anothe $220 incl labor,, but this would still be questionalble on BAss etc?/

If I do this will it be worth the$300 to $500 more than just fixing the BOse,,

OR do you folks suggest something else??

Ijust want tohear decent sound with the topdown at speed,,,, but I really HATE to give up the stock headunit faceplate?/

THANKS!!!!

Default Replacing Bose, using same Head unit, different application will this do the job??? (Bogey)

Anybody out there?? Please give me you opinions??
----
Just got a quote from another local guy, who says he's done this before and will use the Bose head units etc,, add an Amp, and 4 speakers to replace the Bose amps and speakers, installed for $500.00 (I have to put $300 in just having Dr don fix the amps)

this guy is using Pyle or Pile amp (300 watt) and speakeres 120 each

this way I keep the stock look, get better sound and . other than having to stick the amp somewhere,, looks better that my other option below??

I feel like I'm Talking to myself,, anyone out there please??

JMHO - Replace the head unit and all speakers. The "leave the Bose and run it to an amp" has been debated before and I don't think the impeadance matches between the Bose output and the amp input, spelling trouble later.

Don't have an opinion on the headunit or speakers for you. You have to be happy with what you put in it. And they can put any radio in the car, shop charges, etc. look about average.

OBTW - in my 1988 I did not need an antenna adapter, don't know if they changed in 1990 though.

Sounds like a plan. I don't know the speakers though. Personally, I like the boston Acoustics RX speakers. You may want to hear them side by side with the JLs first. They should be a stronger better speaker. The rest of the stuff sounds reasonable. As for bass, If they put the 6x9 bostons in the rear with an amp, you should get much more than the bose made new. I would avoid the bose. Sending good money after bad unless you plan to show the car and want it stock for shows. There should be no permanent modification during the install. Stress that you want it fully reversable and you want them to use a wire harness for the headunit and run new 14 gauge wires for the speakers.
