Default Sub in C5 rear cubby without box?

Yeah, I'm cheap

Thinking about a single piece of 3/4 MDF over the rear cubby without an enclosure attached underneath.

How bad do you think it will sound? Has anyone tried this hack?

I wouldn't do it personally or for any of my former customers, but that doesn't mean that good sound couldn't be achieved. You would either need to seal it up good or get an infinite baffle subwoofer.

Or you could do this

Honestly if your going to go through the trouble to buy an amp/sub, run all of the amplifier wires, purchase a piece of MDF, cut it to size, cut it for the sub..... why wouldnt you finish building the entire sealed enclosure????? You are talking a matter of a few bucks worth of wood and some of your time........ sounds more like lazy than cheap.

Here is a link with some specs I found right here on this forum for building your own "stealthbox" style enclosure, this is in word format:
http://home.cmaaccess.com/~patsygarc...sure_Vette.doc

Do yourself a favor and do it the right way, doing stuff halfass will result in you spending more money and time down the road having to re-do it the right way.

I have a Stealthbox with a single Alpine 10" woofer in my Z06 and I can tell you that the sound it adds to the factory Bose setup is amazing, you will not be dissapointed.

Something else to keep in mind as you do your install is that you will need to tap the low frequency with your LOC, the only low frequency signal in the C5 is to the door speakers...... I know you said you wanted to go cheap but for a plug and play solution I would recommend using the PAC AOEM-VETTE1, this will cost you about $30 more than a standard LOC and its totally plug and play....... in the end the decision is yours.

Good Luck

The only thing I purchased was the PAC AOEM-VETTE1.

I have a 12" sub, amp and wiring from a previous car.

Yeah, its mostly laziness. But I figure it will save some weight and still give me some room in there for the amp. Easier to remove and blah blah yeah Im just lazy

I will probably follow the enclosure plans posted around here and try it out with the bottom detached.
