Default Help converting songs to MP3

Hi, I have recently installed a pioneer HU and have a slot for an SD card that will play MP3 format. I have tried the free software systems to convert Itunes AAC format to MP3 with no success. Does anyone have any pointers on this as it would be cool to have them on SD rather than a Ipod wire running out of the front of my HU. Thanks for the input

The older versions of I tunes use to let you do it not anymore I dont think, You can download this (Free) I use it alot and it works great you can make your own ring tones and whatever I play music and use it to edit music (see link below)

Default Doh !!!

iTunes will do it. Here's how ..

First , make sure you have "Kind" added to your colums (RIGHT CLICK on Column headings and make sure "Kind" is checked); that's how you will sort the newly-created MP3s from the other entries in your Library. You can also check "Date Added" to make sure you get the ones just created.

Select the songs you want
you can select them with shift-click for a range or
you can use <ctl+click> to pick and choose
you can select and Album, Artist ... whatever you like

Once highlighted, RIGHT click and you will see in the menu that pops up "Create MP3 Version"

Let iTunes do it's job - it's not an instantaneous process, esp if you selected multiple songs. They will first appear grayed out - and go black as they are completed.

Once iTunes is done - and ALL the songs are created in MP3, CLICK on the "Kind" heading on the column to sort by Kind and you will see your MP3s move to the top of the list, or at least float to one common spot in the list.

Highlight the created tunes

Now these MP3s are duplicates in your iTunes library (original AND MP3) - you want the duplicate MP3s outta there, so with the duplicated songs highlighted, RIGHT CLICK and select "Delete" and move them to your RECYCLE BIN.

Now you can open the RECYCLE BIN and place them anywhere you want.

Of course, you can always keep the MP3s - it's your Library, but moving them to RECYCLE is an easy way to assemble all the newly created files in one place.

If you want to keep the MP3s in your iTunes Library, you can add them back (once you burn them or whatever you were going to do) - by putting them in a new folder, and use the "Add Folder To Library ..." command under the "File" Menu

Have fun. PM me if you have any questions

Default What I did

Hey, that sounds like it would work although I could not figure it out when I had the same issue. So what I ended up doing was re-ripping the orginal CD using windows media player and moving the songs from there directly to the SD card, leaving itunes out of the picture. This will work if you have the CD but I guess if you downloaded the songs thru itunes this will not work.
I love the SD card on my Pioneer Z120 I use it 100% of the time and all most never use the ipod function on my iphone. I have playlist set up in the SD card in different folders by type of music so I can play all rock, or country, or what ever, or have it random play from all the folders.

Thought I'd re-post this PM here ... Seems what you select as your preferred ripping formst has an effect on what iTunes will allow tou to do - see below

I am running iTunes 10.2.1.1 which I believe is the latest

If you aren't already, I suggest you run the latest version of iTunes. I just converted an ACC file to MP3 no problem ...

Ahhh - so ... Here's your fix:

Go to "Preferences' under the EDIT menu
Go to the "General" tab
Under "Import Settings" change the pull-down menu from ACC to MP3

It will work - MP3 will show up in your Right Click menu now

Be sure to change it back once you are done if you want to keep importing tunes with the ACC codec.

Have fun

- Mike

I had a couple of problems using this threat.

I converted the ACC files, no problem. But as you know, you can't do that to protected files (tunes purchased from iTunes store, which actually were my favorites). So I burned the protected files to CD like it was suggested on a previous thread on here and then imported them in MP3 format. So far, so good.

But when I opened them in iTunes, there were no names or titles listed. Every damn protected file had been burned as Track 1, Track 2, etc. They were definitely there and they were in MP3 format, but no identifiers. And since we are talking about over a 100 songs, I gave it up for the night.

Did I miss a step?

I use a program called Tunebite to convert any protected media I have into unprotected MP3's. Go to tunebite.com to check it out. Looks like current version starts at $27.

Whenever I buy a song on itunes I immediately find the folder it was saved in, then convert that file to an unprotected MP3. I'll then delete the purchased song from itunes play list and move the original file somewhere itunes doesn't know to look for it, then import the new MP3. Itunes treats it just like any other MP3 and lets you burn/copy/convert it as many times as you want to.

Is it saving them to your library? Is that where you would look?

On my computer the purchased songs are saved to:

My Docs - music/itunes/itunes music/....

You can set the converter to put them anywhere. My default is my desktop, then I manually save them to my 'master music folder' by artist. Once it's located in the permanent folder I re-import it into itunes (and usually back everything up on my external drive).

At the risk of asking the obvious, doesn't the Pioneer have an iPod hookup?

I mean all your stuff is in iTunes now, right?

I mean, stick the iPod in the glove, hook it up and forget about it.

Control the songs throught the headunit.

Did in my C5. That iPod stayed going in that glove for about 15 months.

Yes, all in itunes, but it only lets you burn purchased songs to CD so many times and limits what format you can convert them to. I figured out a long time ago that, for me, it's much less aggravating to just convert them as I purchase them (maybe 3 at any one time, tops) instead of having to figure out which songs are causing any future burn attempts to be rejected, then having to convert them all on the spot.

Also, I lost my entire MP3 collection twice (due to hard drive failures) before I had a reliable backup system. It's sooooooo much easier to just convert everything to MP3 and organize it as I acquire the music.

I've been letting my backups slip a bit lately, but I doubt I've downloaded 20 songs in the past year (currently sitting at 4220 in my main music folder on itunes, and I've deleted all of the duplicates).

I currently have 2 ipods and now an iphone 4. Both ipods play videos, one is dedicated to the glove box, the other was my travel companion on trips until I got the iphone, now it's connected to my surround system in the living room and the phone doubles as travel entertainment.

I know it all sounds a bit , but I justify doing it by remembering how much time I wasted reconverting all of my CD's to MP3 three times

Something that could compress it would certainly help. Do you lose a lot of sound quality when you compress it?

Does Formatoz handle iTunes pretty well? Most of the reviews I read concerned video conversion. Didn't see a lot about iTunes stuff and their promo stuff doesn't talking about Apple products (maybe because of copyright stuff and being hassled by Apple).

Its nerdy, but you can go to your local library and check out tons of CDs, rip, return, repeat. NEVER BUY MUSIC FROM iTunes.

You can also rip internet radio streams off ShoutCast (StreamRipper for WinAmp)

And you can transfer digital music off cable with a media sampler/recorder (you have to go back and re-title the files however) http://www.irecord.com/
