Default Need a little advice re dash speaker mounting

I bought a pair of Infinty 4X6 speakers for my 1980 dash and am having a bit of trouble with mounting the passenger side.

http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...=US&Region=USA

The drivers side fits well, I can use the original screw holes to secure it, and the factory dash speaker cover fits flat over top...not so with the passenger side..

The passenger side speaker doesn't want to sit down within the dash 'indent'. I have removed the glove box, shaved some of the plastic edge off, but the speaker still won't fit flush. I also can't use the existing screw holes as they don't line up.

If I could only fasten the speaker into the dash, and pull it down a bit, then all would be well. Unfortunately, with the tools (and hands) I have, I can't anchor the front (window edge) side of the speakers down.

So, I'm looking for tips, advice etc, on how I can anchor that speaker in and pull it into the dash a bit more so I can have a flush fit. (without having to pull the whole dash)

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

It is touching the Glove Box ... but if I can pull the speaker down into the dash and secure it, the the top of the glove box would flex and I'd be OK

So, I'm looking for how I can secure the speaker when the existing mounting holes don't line up and I can't seem to make new ones.

I'd be careful....

It's been a long time since I installed a pair of 4x6s in the dash of a C-3 that my wife used to own, but if I recall correctly, those "dash screws" don't go into anything that's really robust. I doubt you can use them to "flex" the glove box.....

Try using plastic zip ties. I installed 4 x 6's in the rear slots of '91. After I removed the factory Delco speakers, the mounting holes of the new speakers just didn't line up properly. I didn't want to have to drill new holes so I used 6" zip ties which held the speakers on all four corners without slack or movement. It works.
