Default new sub box install question

hi all,

gonna put (1) 12" polk audio dxi in a custom fiberglass box in my c6 z06...

I was planning to run a JL audio 500/1 slash v.2 to power the subs and keeping the original nav HU.......

Do you guys think I need to replace other speakers when adding the sub or can i leave it stock??

also, what is your opinion on the polk audio subs??? should I get a JL audio w3??? can i tell a difference???

thanks

Without having your system sound totally bottom heavy, you'll only be using the new sub/amp to 50% of it's potential. The stock system really won't be able keep up with the sub, so you'll need to limit the output on the sub. You'll definitely be improving the sound, just with that limitation.

The other limitation is the stock components will still be trying to crank out lower frequencies, so some of the stock power will go to driving sound that will be duplicated by the sub, and will limit how loud and clean the stock components will play.

I added a 10" sub a couple of years ago, and finally got around to replacing the rest of the system - it originally sounded good, but now it sounds great!

Easiest would be adding in a multiple channel amp. There are a bunch of good components out there... And everyone has different hearing, so I'd recommend auditioning several. The polks are okay (good for the money). I like the sound of the JLs, and Morels myself.

I would personally update the speakers in the doors, and run those off the amp. The rear speakers running off the stock amp will be okay, as they're really best just for some rear fill... Don't need much power to them, and you really don't want to "hear" them anyway.
