I totaled my 97 but the damage was only just enough to do so and left much of the car intact. I was able to remove the entire sound system except for the large power wires that were buried under EVERYTHING and are not that big a deal to replace.
I'm looking to modify my system for a C6. Here's what i had in my 97
Source
Alpine IVA D310 head unit (1 DIN fold out screen)
Epic150 1/2 DIN subwoofer processor
PXA H701 processor with RUX remote screen (will probably sell the screen)
Connections:
Optical connection from HU to Processor
Knu Konceptz Krystal RCA cables
PAC SN1 ground loop isolators
For the C6, I'd like to convert the head unit to a 2-din Alpine video screen with internal navigation. I currently have an old blackbird B100 but the docking station setup cuts out when I need it the most.
I'd also like to do a dual subwoofer setup, but I'm not sure if i can fit the 12w6 in the side bins.....I'd also need a 1000/1 JL amp to support this.
I fit 2 10 w6v2s in the back, but was told even that was hard to fit by my installer. According to them you wont be able to fit the roof in the back properly if you put 12s back by/in the cubbies. You can most likely use the 12, but it would be right behind the seats. This is all assuming when you mean fit that it includes being able to store the roof in the back with the subs.

I found myself facing this issue with my original setup....two 10s vs one 12. I'm thinking maybe two 10s this time around would move more air. Yes I might sacrifice some of the bottom-end frequencies, but I'll take the tight powerful bass of the 10s.
They are certainly punchy 10s, im overpowering them a bit with a 1000/1 jl and im thinking on turning down the gain on the amp as things inside the dash dont seem to like it 2 12s (or even 1) may have been more ideal for my deep base taste but most likely would require you to put them right behind the seats facing backwords. My install shop said it was a bad idea and i was worried about that setup having waves that cancel each other. If you want tight punchy base two 10s sealed in the back certainly will get the job done even only with the 500/1. Most ideal would be those 2 10 w3v2 positioned like mine in a proper ported box. My installer said the box would have to be too large to fit.
I tend to agree with you. The 12w6 I'm coming from had great power, and filled the lower frequencies nicely, but it lacked the sharp punch that's essential in the rock music I listen to. A lot of this I'm sure is my underpowered midbass (a pair of 6.5" SPX MB in the doors sharing 150w with the 4" midrange through a passive Midbass crossover)
I'm probably going to ditch the 6.5s in favor of something in the 7-8" range for the midbass and throw all 150w at that midbass drivers and split the other amp's power between the 4" and tweeter.
This combined with a planned pair of 10w6v2 subs driven from a 1000/1 JL amp should provide good full-range coverage.
