I have a Pioneer FH-P8000BT head unit. I want to put my music on a USB thumb drive and have the head unit play from it. I have an 8 GB AData drive that I filled with tunes, but when I connect it to the HU, it just says "Format Read" then "N/A USB".
The drive is formatted FAT32. All music files are MP3.
Not all thumbdrives are created equal. As much of a pain as it is to transfer 8 gig of music, he may be right.
Try a different brand but just put a couple of songs on it and then try it, so all your time is not wasted again.
The red Verbatim is an excellent choice, although it may be a bit more expensive.
It was the same way with CDs back when we were burning them ourselves and playing them in the stock head units. Some played, some didn't. Some actually failed to eject from the unit. What a pain.
Some of these HU's are expecting a specific hierarchy as far as the file structure on the drive is concerned. The aftermarket stereo in my 2008 Silverado is like that.
I found my other 2 thumb drives and the Pioneer plays music off both of them. I hope the deck likes the 32 GB stick I have on order.
One more thing to look for--when you load a boatload of songs on one file, just watch to see of it goes past song number 255 (when on random or linear play). With my SD card, I had to load six different directories with less than 255 songs each. With the USB, it works great with 969+ songs in one directory...go figure
