Default Sub Preference: 1x10" or 2x8" ??

Starting to slowly upgrade in phases, starting with some rear bass.

I have a '01 Coupe and will be doing the rear cargo box drop, I have both:

A) Infinity 10" Sub-

B) a pair of Polk Momo 8" Subs-

Which are leftover from various projects,

1) which do you think would be more efficient, more productive, more crisp in the given space provided?

2) If I do decide to go with the pair of 8's, I definitely must split the sub box so the air mass does not cancel each other out, right?

3) Also is best to fill the box with Poly void or other stuffing?

4) I also have several 250 RF Punch /300 Polk /500 Infinity Amps that I will experiment with as well to drive the Sub (s). Any preference to final pairings?

Any opinions greatly appreciated?

Thanks and Happy Memorial Holiday Weekend

I'd go with one 10" over two 8", but it also depends on the sub and amp ratings. If the 8's are 4ohms each, and all your amps need a 4ohm load, that might not work to wire up both of them.

If you build the box to the proper size, poly won't be needed. Look up the sub requirements and do some math first so everything gets made to spec.

personally i would do 1 10. but if its 1 10" infinity vs 2 8" momos do the 8s. also no need to split the box they can share air space

So not a big fan of the infinity's. I had the Polk Subs in enclosures in the back of the C3 and it hit pretty hard and sounded great, thinking of doing them side by side in the cargo hatch, should be plenty of air and perfect fit.

Sounds like the way to go, appreciate the response and will see how it sounds.

Thanks and enjoy your Holiday Weekend!

For the record the pair of Polk Momo 8's sound great, gives the whole system much more Bass and depth, highly recommended for those with spare parts available!

I used a single 10" in my 2004 C5 Coupe (in a 'stealth' enclosure) and it sounds awesome!

Plus, the stealth box filled up the center compartment perfectly and REALLY cut down road noise.

Well you have to look at it a couple of ways. The 8's are going to give you approximately 22 sq/in more cone space as the 10 so you are going to move more air. The 8" woofer will inherently respond to lower frequencies than the 10 will. If they are both 4 ohm then you can run a 2ohm load and get more power out of the amp for two woofers. You can use common cavity for two 8s as long as they are run in parallel. You do not have to stuff with polyfill inless you cannot build a box large enough for the woofers. Polyfill in a box slows the air wave behind the woofer tricking it into thinking it has a larger box than what it really does. I personally like the performance of 2 8s vs 1 ten, but of course everyone's listening preference is different. Unless I am going for all out BOOM, then I always go with 8s.
