Default C4 Question: Power to an amp

About to install a new system. Boston Acoustic speakers and Sub with a GT-50 amp. Blaupunkt head.

Need to run Amp power, but I'd prefer to leave the firewall alone if possible.

So, where did you get your power from?

Figure I'll ground in the b-pillar. If I recall, there's a spot there.

12.6v, (again, if I recall ((book is at home)), 4 gauge wire. Unit will be in the rear hatch.

Also, any thought on capacitors? I'm thinking an alternator upgrade as the alternative if needed.

Help is greatly appreciated!

I don't know what year your c4 is, but I found a wiring hole in the driver footwell that I could sneak wiring through. Pull the carpet back and look for a wide rubber grommet. I can't recall if there was already wiring there or not.

Don't get a cap, they are silly.

I doubt you'll need an alt upgrade.

'86. I think I know the grommet you're talking about. I figured that'd be the way since I'd probably burn out any smaller wires I hooked the larger 4g up.

Yeah, that's what I've heard about caps. I'm not running performance audio. I'll see how it runs before I look into an alt upgrade.

Thanks!!

Awesome, thanks for the input.

Just to followup, I couldn't find the grommet, at least one in the area I was hoping for. I ended up 'carefully' going through the firewall, above the foot well, not far from the battery, in an area unlikely to get any weather. The hole sealed up nicely—but will be something to watch for the summer. The wire runs tucked under the carpet near e-brake and into the hatch along the wall.

Drill bit was 7/16 with a smaller pilot hole.
I found 20' of 4-gauge wire leaves a little breathing room on both ends for final fit.

Hope that'll help anyone else looking to do the same!
