Hey, I have a 96 coupe that Im putting a stereo in.. I have everything I need to put subs in it but I cant figure out if I should just buy a box and set it in back or if I HAVE to have one custom made, Im on a budget now so I need all the advise I can get... I have 2 twelve in subs, I would like to use both but if not I want at least 1. If anyone has any ideas or could tell me what they did I would appreciate it. O yeah, If anyone has a custom box for a c4 that they are selling LET ME KNOW PLEASE!!!!
You need a box that will match the specs provided by your Subwoofer manufacturer. Being that it's a 12, good chance you'll need over a cubic foot EACH for the subs. Don't plan on putting anything in the back of your car ever again.
There is approx 1 cu ft available in the passenger side storage box; you can easily reinforce it, replace the doors with an MDF baffle, and mount a 12" driver. Also fairly doable on the drivers side; yes the ABS is in there but the unit doesn't physically occupy much air volume. You just need to watch the speaker mounting depth and adjust your baffle thickness accordingly so it clears the ABS valve. At least you can keep some luggage space this way...
got another quik question.... do U guys think If i just went and baught a sub box and set in back it would look to "trashy" Im thinking about maybe just goin and buyin a single 12" enclouser.... what do ya think?
You'd probably want to make an enclosure. The storage area with the ABS is not 1 foot. The other empty one behind the passenger will get you a cubic foot. Some subs require more or less air. It depends more on the maker than the size. My sub needs 1 foot even. Check your manufacturer's site for the amount of air needed. You could also make a shallow box that the roof fits over. Make it from MDF and put it behind the compartments. It would need to have an internal depth of about 1" greater than the amount the woofer protrudes into the box. You can cover it with carpet and it really won't be that big. The width back there is about 30" and depth 10" for my vert. You could easily make a box to fit back there and still work with the roof and the storage areas. Use MDF and get some good carpet from a sterio shop. If you want a ported or bandpass box however they are going to get big quick. Last, you can put a premade box back there. It won't fit quite right and may interfere with the roof. If you look for one designed for a single 12" to be mounted behind a pickup seat and mount it with horizontally instead of vertically like it would go int the pickup, that would probably work with the roof. It would also be fairly easy to remove with some quick disconnects so you can open up your storage area. Lots of ways to secure it.
Hope this helps
