Default Sub box and CD changer question

For those of you that had the CD changer and installed a sub box in the center well (moving or removing the changer):

What did you do about the screw studs the changer mounted to? If you removed them, how did you do it? I don't see an easy way to get them out other than cutting them.

I would like to keep the option of reinstalling the changer if I ever sell the car. But I don't want to leave the screws in so I can have the extra space for the box (and to keep the box from putting pressure on them, possibly breaking their mounts).

Thanks for any info.

Pull your tail lights and you should see that the screw heads are stuck to the body panel with adhesive (looks like caulk). You might be able to chisel away at it from that end and then "tap" the screws out with a hammer. I'd seal the open holes up the same way, with a small piece of plastic (pop bottle, oil container, etc) and some caulk.

I left mine in so I could easily put it back to stock.

Does your box contact the screws at all? I'm worried the box may force the screws out the back, bend them, etc.

With all the g-forces these cars can generate, it seems like the box would get tossed around in the well pretty easily, hitting the screws on a regular basis.

I didn't use the JL Audio steakthbox. I made my own from 3/4" MDF. It doesn't touch the studs and fits tight in the center well. I simply moved the CD changer to the right side compartment. The I began taking measurements and made the box from scratch using a circular saw. A table saw would have been beneficial for all of the angled cuts and precision neceesary. The only way I was able to get all of the side pieces cut exactly the same width was to clamp them together and trim the edges with one additional cut. It took a sunny Saturday afternoon in the driveway to do but it was fun. I put in a 10" Infinity Beta that I had laying around from a previous car. It only cost me about $20 in materials vs. $400+ for the stealthbox. :yesnod:

I'm building my own box too. Just using the plans mrkln posted: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=247462 . I'm also using 3/4" MDF.

I took the changer out to see how the box would fit, but I need to remove the storage lid 'hole brackets' before the box will slide into place. And I was just worried about the screws. Who knows, once I take the brackets off, the box will fit right in, and the screws will be a non-issue... hopefully..
