The gauge of the wire was one of my first thoughts, but going by the picture, are you sure that that's 14ga wire? Looks a lot bigger.
In the coupe there's a ground point in the base of the pillar behind the passenger side. Grounding there is good if you sand the paint under the screw. Not sure about the location you're using... Haven't worked on a vert.
It may help the bass a little, but shouldn't make much of a difference.

The AMP kit i got came with a power and ground cable of 4 gauge but the ground one was to short. The ground wire i have on there now is 14 gauge. Too small. So i have ordered a longer 4 gauge wire for the ground.
i changed out the 14 gauge ground wire now to the correct 4 gauge wire but the amp still gets ridiculously hot. perhaps where i have it grounded needs to be slightly sanded...maybe ill try one of the seat bolts too and see how that does
