Default ipod wire placement

I tried a couple searches with no luck so here goes. Where do you guys run your ipod wires. Specifically, I have a KW DDX418 and the ipod connector comes out of the face of the unit ( a mini and a usb). It comes out directly in front of the 6 speed shifter. I currently bend the wire 90 degrees towards the glove box and leave the ipod there. I am a little concerned with how the plugs on the head unit will hold up over time, while always bending the cable towards the glove box.

Are there other options with this cable on a head unit such as this? I do not really care for the look of it either (of the wire leading to the glove box). Please advise. Thanks.

99% positive that unit also has usb in the back so you could use the rear usb and route it to glovebox/center counsle and leave the front open

Thanks for the reply. It seems like you are always first to respond and the amount of info you dish out is incredible and appreciated. I thought that there would be a rear usb but was not sure. I mentioned to the place that installed it that i did not like the front wire exposed---they made no mention or offer of rear usb hookup. Now I am curious.

I had to look Palatine up on google---about 6 hours North of here. I agree I probably would have been better off having you do the install. I have had some issues such as steering wheel controls stopped working, sound quality issues, and most recently battery drainage. All of these have been corrected by the guy who did the install but it has been inconvenient. I would be interested in your 2 cents worth if you are coming to southern IL or St. Louis area. I have a few thoughts of expanding the system and the advice of a corvette guy would be welcomed. PM me if you are serious and maybe we could work something out. Thanks.

I have the Pioneer Z130-BT with the Ipod/USB coming into the Armrest compartment. It was cut out so the the IPOD plugs into the compartment just like there had been original outlet. It is so stealthy! I can put the IPOD in the box and do all the controls from the HU face.

I live about 20-25 minutes from St. Louis and 35 minutes or so from Mt. Vernon just off I-64 which connects the two cities. I would love to meet somewhere or invite you over to my home if you are up to it. Let me know. What type of "work project" do you do?

I ran mine to the center console but it gets hot in there. I had to take the dash apart for another issue so I ran it down the side of the console. It comes out from the console about half way down the side or so. If you look you'll see where it is convenient for the wire to come out.

This way I have the ipod close for convenience but it won't get so hot. probably ok but it has become a pain at times for the unit to be in the console and I can't reach it very well if it were in the glovebox.

I tuck the cable between the console and the seat when not in use.

But I don't always leave the ipod hooked up like some do either.

If you're going to connect the iPod and rarely touch it, the use the glovebox. The armrest is too hot on long trips, C5 is worse than C6, but my iPhone4 has gone into protection mode after 400 miles on a 95* day in the C6

Work for the railroad handling signals and crossings, etc. We are cutting some new equipment in down there hopefully at the end of the month and I will be going down to help get the new equipment online. Let me find out where exactly we will be at. I believe it will be last week of the month but we may have to push it back due to complications. Either way if possiable I can help you move ipod wire and make any tweeks you need

That would be great. Thanks. I suppose the next step would be to PM my phone number to you or you to do the same. Too bad you won't be down here earlier. Corvette Funfest in Effingham is the weekend of the 17th.

I've been trying to do a little more research with my limited knowledge. From what I could discover, there IS a USB in the rear of the unit. But from what I understand, it is for bluetooth only. I strolled in to the Memphis dealer yesterday, brought up the subject, and he immediately stated the same thing that I had researched. He also said that he would not have sold me the unit but he was unaware of lack of rear USB before installing. I hate that wire coming out of the front, I also dislike the limited EQ and the five buttons/screens you have to press to get to it.
I was looking at a 9980HD--- it had a 13 band normal EQ which could be accessed by pressing "AUDIO" button one time. Damn they are expensive though---saw them as high as $1700 at Custom Sounds and as low as $1199 shipped on fleabay.
I might just live with what I have unless someone knows if the rear bluetooth USB can work for Ipods. ?????????

it would only take us a few minutes to pull the unit and find out. i dont get what they means its for bluetooth that makes zero sense to me. if you look at the back of a ddx unit there is an audio jack as well just like on the front. i will try and research more

edit: did some more research apparently rear usb is just for bluetooth but i still might try it. what a stupid move on kenwoods part.

I agree with the stupid move by Kenwood------also stupid move by me buying it!!! Actually it is fine for what I want and is fine other than the ipod wire and EQ. I wouldn't mind trying the rear USB---might save me a grand in the long run. I'll PM you in a week or two. Thanks.
