Folks, I have a small 4 gen ipod that I loaded approx 16gb of CD's onto a desktop and synched with same ipod. Yes I had accepted the license agreement and had no problems synching "FROM" the desktop to ipod.
Problem is - desktop crashed and burned.
I would like to synch from my ipod to a new computer and load my current 4G ipod songs to a repository so I can tweak it and load it back to my ipod.
(I'm thinking if I reload itunes and synch it will WIPE all my songs off my ipod! - Not a desired result!)
Does anyone have success or great success with a different application than itunes that allows what I am wanting to do *and* more flexibility? My main concern is I do not want to start over loading 4000 songs one cd at a time.
Please help if you have wisdom in this arena and thank you!!
If that doesn't work, go to download.com and search for "ipod to computer", even if you have to pay $20 for a program that works it beats having to redownload everything.
Once you have everything saved as MP3's again BACK IT ALL UP. External hard drives are super cheap these days
What operating system? Senuti works well for macs. I am not sure if they have a pc version.
You are right, syncing with a new computer will wipe out your iPod. iTunes syncs music in one direction (from computer to iPod). You need a program that will reverse the flow.

Thanks to each respondent! I'll run through this in detail. I have a couple terabite HD's with tunes..... but not a backup of this little guy since the crash of desktop. If / when I find a easy to use and transfer solution I'd like to make better use of this Ipod and the many other songs I have. (Itunes and I have trouble reaching any other than one way objectives - I'll take blame!)
OS is Windows 7 Pro. Is a new computer so it currently has no Itunes on it at present. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS!!! I've been way too busy with work / personal to sort this and similarly related tune management problems.
I'd love to get this arena tuned up in preparation for my new sound system I will be installing in my C6 Z51 Vert. TYVM!!!!!!

Yes, going Saturday AM unsure about when I'm coming back home.
Thanks for offer / I'm behind on a few things this week too but making progress.
I can't go Saturday---going to a concert that night and have family stuff in the day. Going Friday, and maybe Sunday if we want to. Check out sharepod. If you go to Youtube there are many videos that show the process as well. If you would like some help, no problem. Let me know.

Just a random thought for you, but if the hard drive is still readable, you might try one of the boxes that converts an internal drive to an external drive that plugs into a USB port.
In the past I have been able to snag files off of a hard drive that was still readable, but not bootable or writeable with this sort of a setup. Then, when the files were copied to a new harddrive, I setup a backup plan to an external harddrive.
