2008 vette base model upgrade stock speakers question

my vette did not come with the bose system, looking for the best sounding speakers in the stock locations. i have installed a pioneer dd navi unit now looking to replace the crappy speakers.

To get the best bang for the Buck Call Rick @ RAAMAUDIO. He can help get the right speakers. He is good to work with and really tries to make his customers happy.

I have a 2008 base coupe also and put in a Pioneer Z120 HU and Vibe speakers and amp, it sounds and look great, IMO

The problem is that the stock locations are for a 10" and 3.5" speaker. There are some tradeoffs involved. Other's may feel differently, but here's my view:

You can replace them with 6.5" components, and no amp - but a smaller driver is less efficient at producing bass. You'll lose some low frequencies, but you'll get better sound quality in the midrange and high end.
You can replace them with 6.5" components and an amp - you'll still probably lose a little low end reproduction, but definitely better sound, probably even in the midbass.
You can put a larger woofer (8"), and use a 3.5" coaxial speaker - you'll get better bass, but the install is more difficult, and you'll need an amplifier. You'll get better sound, and an installation that doesn't take up any more space in the car.
You can upgrade the front speakers (without an amplifier) and add a subwoofer and amp - this will get much better sound than you have now, and might be the most performance for the money.
You can upgrade the front speakers, add a sub, and get an amplfier to run the fronts and subwoofer. Best way to go, but most costly.

Probably more info than you were looking for, but I just have to share...

I have a 'Vert and did a full replacement with Memphis Audio speakers and AMP. I can drop the top on the Interstate and the sound is crystal clear. Cost about a grand for the parts and install. Best decision I made regarding the Audio.
