Default need advise on adding sub

i have a c5z and I'm looking to add a sub to the system and probably some twitters in the pillars, audio system is all stock Bose and head unit. I'm not looking for anything crazy and expensive just want it to sound better. will upgrade the rest at time comes.

1st Question is what do i need run a sub on stock head unit?

2nd I'm gonna go with a 10" sub, but don't know what to go with. i mostly listen to hard rock some rap here and there. i want a sub that's gonna hit not boom me to death.

3rd Goes along with the 2nd question need to know what amp to use the with the sub.

If theirs anything else i need to know please tell

thanks,
Jesse

Easiest way to get the signal from a stock radio is an AOEM-Vet1.

Since you want to install a sub, I'd suggest replacing the tweeters only idea with 6.5" components in the doors (remove oem sub/twiddlers). Get a 4-channel amp that can be bridged so you can power the fronts off ch 1+2, then bridge the sub off 3+4. You can either ditch the rear speakers or leave them powered by the stock radio.

In C5 the center tub is perfect for a hidden sub box. There are plenty of boxes available to buy, or you can DIY with these plans

Which sub and speakers depends on your budget, how much you lookin' to spend?

Yes... if you buy low end equipment used. Or get an all in one solution. Like a used infinity basslink. But... they are shaped funny.

$200 for just the sub and amp can be done, but you're looking at low end gear unless you find great deals.

Maybe.... DIY box ($40ish) + sub ($60) + amp ($70) + AOEM ($40) = $210

That would get you the thump you're looking for, but I'd seriously suggest looking at 4-channel amps that are 3-channel capable. That way you'll only have to buy the components for the doors when you want to upgrade the fronts (and you will want to, trust me). Something like this would work, but again the more you spend the better it will sound.

If you want to make a modest improvement on the front speaker sound without spending too much money, just about any 2-way aftermarket 3.5" speaker will sound better than the oem paper speakers. These are popular drop in replacements.

Before you ask.... Installing components up front without using a new amp to power them won't do much good, the radio doesn't put out enough power to properly drive them. Using an amp to feed new 3.5" speakers in the doors won't work too good either, the small speakers can't handle the power that a real amp puts out without distorting.

Carpet that matches is generally pretty expensive. Just find some felt or material that's a color you like.

I'm fiberglassing the sides/bottom of mine- should do the same trick with less weight and I should get a little more airspace since the fiberglass conforms to all the less-than-flat surfaces. I'm using 3/4" MDF for the top panel.

That link's domain doesn't like foreign IP addresses. As soon as I connected through my VPN via San Fran, the plans came right up. I appreciate your offer though. You did a fine job drawing the plans- looks very professional.

What is your budget?

I added a box, amp, and two subs for $800.00.

Carpeted box custom made ($100)
for two 10" Audiobahn AWP-310 Pro Compression subs ($400) (Ebay) (These subs were like 25-30 pounds each!!)
and one MTX 1501d Amp ($300) (Ebay)

Installation was just about $50.00 because the box sat on my rear deck in my FRC. I did NOT upgrade my tweeters or any other components.

For transfer of signal, I needed the old GMCRV-1 ($79 on Ebay) adapter to use my Pioneer deck.

I would talk to Dennis at DDMods. See my post about new stereo system from DDMods. This guy knows his stuff and the prices are very fair. Good luck and let us know how you make out!
