Stock single cd player ERR code/msg. (store bought cd's & tried diff ones)
Searched/researched & decided it needs professional help...
Took it to dealer & they referred me to electronic tech in Kville, who concluded it's the laser. After 3 hrs. they say it's ready, come pick it up. I get in my car to 'test' before I leave...."ERR" comes up again! They pull it back out & tell me it's the "board", (huh?) and they need to keep it overnite---it'll be ready tomorrow sometime.
I did ask & they said my laser was def bad but now an issue with the "board"???
Sorry, but does all this sound legit? They did tell me there won't be any more charges/cost, but I did already pay them and hope I didn't screw up.
Anyone experienced this & can give a gal a lil insight it'd be much appreciated....
What year is your vette (I am surfing from an iPhone and this info is not apparent in your profile)? Is your head unit stock? Are you still within warranty? Have you actually been charged for your repairs? If you have a stock c6 in warranty then you should get a replacement. If you are out of warranty then you should either consider new old stock radio replacement or an aftermarket upgrade. Check out dennis' offerings, his handle is c5bearsfan.
If they can't get it working, the EASIEST fix would be to get a new used radio. You may get lucky by asking on the forum, but ebay has them for $100-200.
Re the shop doing your work, just the fact that they called you to say it was ready, when it clearly wasn't, raises flags for me. However, since they said no more charges to fix 'the board', I'd see what they come up with. But I don't think I'd let them charge any more than what you already paid, and I might even ask for that back if they don't send you on your way with a functioning CD player.

It's an '03 & I believe everything is stock. No warranty, just the extended one I bought, but it doesn't include radio issues. I was told it's $35.00 for estimate & $15.00 just to take out & put back in...I was never given an estimate, they just called & said it's done and it was the laser (assembly?) I paid $263.00....

Yeah, I know & it's a lil bit of a haul running back and forth from where I live JUST to get there & find it's still not fixed...grrr! They def told me it'd be no more money for the "board" but hope they don't try & tell me it's some 'other' issue now. They install/sell all kinds of car electronics so if they can't fix it maybe they'll work something out with a new system.
Thanx for the feedback...guess I'll keep my fingers crossed & hopefully it'll all will work out.
