I have the same nav unit and as soon as my iphone sync's up with H/U all my contacts are listed in the radio. I am not sure what your definition of "transferring" is but I dont think the radio stores the contacts themselves. It only "sees" them on your phone when you are connected via bluetooth. Now once you are synced they are shown on the radio and you can scroll through and use them just like you do on your phone but the minute you lose connection the contacts icon option is not available.
