I recently added a new amp to my system but didn't run any new wires from HU. I mounted a JL hd900/5 digital amp to the far back wall of the car slighty to the left of the latch that hold down the trunk/hatch. Now I have poor radio reception and wonder if the amp could be causing the problem ? Is there something back there behind the carpet on the back wall that chould be interfered with or whatever ? Where is the antenna at ? Back window ? Also my onstar has a hard time connecting too , but it was that way before, but never really used it and didn't notice it. I saw a post on a antenna booster but wonder if that is the real solution.
When I figure out how to post pics I show you guys my new set up... I think you guys will like my new sub box !
Does anyone know where the wires run that have to do with the antenna ? Maybe I disturbed something somewere ? I just realized I did adjust a crossover for the doors maybe i bumped a wire under my kick panels ? Any ideas where to look would be great
When I initially did my system a couple years ago I used a JL 500/5. The radio reception was terrible in both AM/FM. I banged heads with my installer to no avail. He had excuses out the wazoo but couldnt solve it. I finally got fed up and called JL headquarters in Miami. Spoke to one of the big shots there and he told me that in some areas of the Country the class D amp used can affect reception. I swapped out the 500/5 for a 450/4v2 and 300/2v2(both AB amps) and it solved the issue.
Not saying thats your issue but something to keep in mind. Good luck.
In C6 the radio antenna is mounted on the rear wall of the trunk
Prints are HERE if you want to look at them. I haven't yet had a reason to actually find the coax, but I'm guessing it runs along the drivers side door sill, over the wheel hump next to the XM box, then back to the rear wall.
I had a JL 500/5 in my G35 several years ago. Reception was terrible. The JL blew the rear and sub channels so I replaced it with a Memphis 5 channel amp. Reception was now perfect!! no distotion or other noise. Have also heard that class D amps, especially the JL's cause radio distortion.
So what can i do ? I don't want to get rid of this amp... It sounds really good to me, except the radio, Can a signal booster help the issue or will it just make it worse ? I also have some alternator whine but i think it's from the rca's being too close to the power wire. $%^& Wish I would stop having issues with this system.... Seems everything i've done or had done causes another issue
Markcz... I can't read that well enought to tell where the actual wires run to. Wonder if I could shield the amp some way ? I might need to move it to the storage box in the back.. I hate to since I built a cool floating amp rack with a fan in it.
