Coaxials and 8" sub??

Those Focal components and 10" sub seems like the better way to go, by far. Good luck on whatever you get. For $3k, it better sound nice.

I would decide how much if any trunk space you want to give up as well. I spent about half of what your budget is and my car sounds amazing. However I have a huge amp and fairly large box, plus I did my own install. If you did your own install, you could probably save quite a bit. There is a ton of info and a ton of options. Most guys run a small 4 channel with a set of components up front and a sub in the back. That setup will sound great for most people.
