I have an '04 C5Z. According to the Optima product guide, the 8042-218 battery fits with modification. However, no modification is shown to be necessary on the '03 C5Z. Does anyone know what the modification is, or if it's really necessary?
I dropped a Ye;low Top in my 99
then 3 months later pulled it out dropped another one in
then 6 months later pulled it out dropped the third one in.
2 months later pulled out the 3rd on
dropped in a Advance Gold and dropped the 100.00 difference in my pocket. No problems since
The Yellow Top I am not a fan of
good luck with it

The Advance Gold battery seems to be a standard, starter type, car battery. My audio system draws between 12-25 A when rocking, so I suspect my battery won't tolerate that very long. Do you know of any alternatives to Yellow Top? I'm just looking for a hybrid type battery.

I'm thinking mine is 8 years old.
I've gone through alot of red tops in my other vehicles though. They usaully replace them for free.
I put a Red Top into my C5 when the oem battery crapped out. I don't have any actual complaints, but the car seemed to have a harder time turning over than it did with the stock battery.
When my C6 battery started showing signs of impending failure I did some research and ended up with the DieHard Platimum P-5 AGM
Though the Yellow Top worked great in my ex audio comp truck for 8 years I had so many buddies have theirs die I switched to Odyssey 6 years ago or longer in all my other installs, race cars, etc...and like them better overall. I have lost two out of quite a few but both were not maintained properly in cold weather, my fault, the others, some quite old, still work incredibly well.
The PC1200 in my Vette is far better than the stock battery I replaced with just 13k miles on it. I was going to put my 925 in but sold the car it was in and to busy to swap them, I am sure it would work fine as well and weighs less. I am running a 680 in my other race car.

12-25amps is nothing. unless you have some rediculous setup there is no reason a stock battery wont be fine
