Default Sub-Woofer Options

Ok Fellas. Working again on a big SUV. I am trying to decide between:
a) 1 JL Audio 13W7 on a JL 1200/1
b) 2 JL Audio 13W6 on a JL 1200/1

My goals are to be able to play any type of music well/accurately and to have maximum output. Space is not an issue.
I am no audiophile, but I do really enjoy loud, clear audio. Thanks for the help.

Ever hear the saying "Theres no replacement for Displacment"?
Well the same goes for car audio. I think the two 13W6V2s would be the way to go, and I personnaly like the sound quality of the W6V2s over the W7s.

I would be inclined to look at other subs though. I have had alot of JL subs in the past and there are other options when you are in those price ranges.

I do like the amp you chose though. I have 2 HD 750/1s in my Vet and I had considered just using 2 of the 1200/1s because they were so small and would fit the same location. But after hearign the 2 750/1s I did not need any more!

If you go with the 2 W6s you might consider the 2 750s, you can get them for less than one 1200/1 and have a little more power.

Thanks for the input. Which subs would you consider in place of the JLs. Just curious! Thanks again!

Dont get me wrong, JL subs are awsome, especially the W7 and W6s. There are just alot of other equally amasing subs out there also. If you are like most of us you have to ballance perfrmance with price.

As far as alternative subs there are alot:
Image Dynamics IDMAX
Morel Ultimo
TREO
RE
Massive Audio
Sundown
Digital Design

These are in no particular order and all have there pros and cons.

If you are just going with JL because they have a good reputation and a big following then, that is a safe bet and nothing wrong with that. I would guess that you would be thrilled with them.....

But, you might take a little time to check out other options. It might suprise you what else is available.

I like to try new things some times. In my car i am almost finished with a new install and I went with some subs that were just strait out of left field.

They are TC Sounds Epic 10" subs. I saw someone on here asking about the 8" version of these so I decided to do a little reseach and see what I could find on them. To my dismay there was not alot on the Epic line, but TC Sounds has a good reputation for there products.
I ended up going with them on a whim and wow was I ever supprised. Turns out to be one of the best sounding subs I have ever had. For comparison, I installed 2- 10" W6s in my wifes car a few months ago. The TC Sounds blow them away. Granted it is not an apple to apple comparison as they are in diferant cars, enclosures, etc. but I am very impressed with the little epic 10" subs. They were also 1/2 the price of the W6s and a shallower mounting depth.

My concern is not being able to demo the majority of these woofers. They look impressive, but as we know, looks don't tell the story. The JL woofer is more of the safe choice for me, although I'd love to save money and get equal quality. I'm willing to run a big box and am 55% Output 45% Sound Quality

personally, I'm drawn to the W6. I feel it reproduces a broader range of bass more accurately than the W7 series.....though I've never tried the 13" setup

I agree with you on this. The OP's option was 1 13W7 or 2 13W6s. If I had the space I would definatly go with the 2 13W6s

Also, there is nothing wrong with going with a safe bet. I went with the W6s in my wifes car because I didnt want to end up with something she did not like and I knew the W6s would perform. I save the "experimenting" for my car.

How about DC sound labs. They have entry level all the way up to 75 pound monsters. Woofers are assembled in the good ol USA. Custom options available. Carbon fiber, colors, etc. I went with the company based on forum reviews and it has been mine favorite sub so far.

I am turning into a big fan of the Arc Audio Black series subwoofers. I run the regular Arc series in my Vette and ship them with the Vette audio packages regularly, great sounding and low enough in weight. For those wanting one of the newest ultimate sounding subs the Black series is an option but in the 10" version a bit over 8lbs heavier.

In an SUV, the Black series is the way to go, I am cutting out the floor under the rear seat and welding in an enclosure in our V8 4runner to install a 12" one there. It would be easier to do this in the rear but our Akita and Irish Wolfhound ride back there all the time and I do not want them sitting by a sub, or two.

The Arc Flat Line subs are dang fine as well, I have yet to hear one side by side with the new Black series though.

I also love ID subs, not the company any longer, long and a bit of a sad story, I have ran many, beaten a prior world champion using them(SQ install with dual IDMAX12's and 2kw of power) I have four ID 15's with 3,800 watts RMS in my living room still!

JL is a great company, great reputation, etc but for the money there are better subs in comparable lines

Rick

Max output? Then definitely the two 13W6s. The only downside is your sub box will be allot bigger than a single 13W7.

I'm running two JL Audio 18W6s with two JBL 1200.1s in my SUV,

Thank you Guys very much for your input. I will put it to good use. I am very interested in the Arc, DC, RE, DD, SA, and SS lines. I guess I just need to decide if I am willing to gamble and order a brand unknown to me. I will let you guys know what I decide. Thank you all again.
