Default Kenwood 6980 install w/ camera question
I'm getting ready to tackle a 6980 install with a reverse camera on a C5. Does anyone know if the camera can be turned on at will from the headunit, or will it only come on when in reverse? I'd like to be able to turn it on at will when I want (its nice to know how close the tailgaters are). Will I have to mount some sort of switch to make it think the car is in reverse?

It shows up when in reverse OR by pushing the buttons. IIRC, hold down the SCREEN button to switch over, but check the manual to be sure.

Thanks! The car is a manual, I'm guessing it will have to tie into the reverse lights?

if you want it to be able to turn on from the button push, then you must wire the positive power wire of your camera to a switched ignition wire

So, I'll need two power connections? One to the reverse lights and one to a switched source - spliced into positive power wire on the camera?

run reverse lights to headunit reverse wire. connect switched ignition only to 12volt wire on camera
