Default 2009 Factory Nav install questions

I have been getting conflicting stories and could use some help. I am looking at installing a factory nav unit in an 09 convertible with Bose and On Star. I would like to know if I need a nav unit from a 2009 car or will others work. I have searched for this and have found a few different stories and none that address my issue exactly. Any and all help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

However it works out, you'll definitely need to go to a dealer (or someone with a tech2) to get the new hu married to the car.

I know that others have installed Nav units from other years and they've worked just fine. If it were me, if you can't get an '09, I think I'd try to find a radio that was newer than the car.

So will a 2010 work? I was just going off what I have read on here....that the main computer has a different operating system, I don't know....

Has anyone tried to put a 2010 nav in a 2009?

Try searching through the C6 for sale/wanted section to see if any comments were made. Maybe even contact some of the buyers to see how it turned out.
