Default Starting over - coupe to vert

I'm trading in my 06 coupe for an 08 convertible, which of course means a fresh start on the stereo front. The vert I'm planning to get is a 3LT with factory nav, so I'm entertaining the idea of keeping the stock head unit for now. According to the C6 FAQ here, the factory stereo provides clean low level outputs. I'm hoping one of our forum vendors can hook me up with a harness that will give me RCA connections to use an aftermarket amp.

My initial plan includes recycling the amp and subs from my coupe into the trunk of the vert. Long term, I'd like to have 8" subs behind the seats like the JL Stealthbox, then perhaps a 10" in the trunk if I feel the need. Any forum vendors producing custom sub enclosures for the space behind the seats in the convertible?

I actually received my vettenuts sub enclosures yesterday, and I plan on using them in the vert. I want to look into adding 8" subs behind the seats, too.

According to the C6 audio FAQ, the "black box" in the PAC adapter screws with the clean signal from the head unit, and it's recommended to bypass it by soldering or splicing RCA connectors directly to the speaker signal wires from the radio side of the harness. Is that the case? What is the purpose of the black box if the head unit already puts out a flat, line-level signal?

Then you want to do THIS. Splice into the wire at B3 for your amp trigger (white in oem harness).

You got enclosures from vettenuts, meaning TWO. And you also want to add the 8" subs behind the seat. Either or is more than enough

Don't you tell me I can't get stupid with my subs . I really like the sound from the dual 10s I have in the coupe, but I think having the 8s right behind the seats would add some tactile response and just be kinda cool. Then I could perhaps use a single 10 in the trunk to provide really low end oomph that the 8s might lack, and reclaim a little bit of storage. Yeah, it would be excessive, but I'll have enough clean power running through the components up front to keep up. I mean, it's a Corvette, and the C6s are the most powerful stock Vettes ever, so why not go a little crazy?

On the other hand, maybe I can find an insert that will give me storage compartments behind the seats instead of speakers, since there really doesn't seem to be much space in the cab of the convertible. I don't even have the vert yet, I'm just considering possibilities at this point .

IMO - You’re probably better off with just the 10’s in the trunk “or” just the 8’s behind the seats.

To get 8’s behind the seats, you’ll have to seal off most of the area between you and your trunk and that will obstruct sound waves from entering into the passenger compartment from the trunk, so to put 10’s in the trunk and the 8’s behind the seats seem a little counterproductive (unless you plan on having passengers ride in your trunk)

However, I feel your pain, the C6 vert is one of the more challenging cars I’ve dealt with while trying to get a decent subwoofer setup without losing most of your trunk, and in your case it will be worse because you stated that you had dual 10s in your coupe.

If you took your exact dual 10s and amp from your coupe and stuck them in your vert, you will be surprised how much bass you “appear” to have lost due the acoustics of a convertible compared to a coupe.

I’ve only had my C6 vert 6 months and I’m already working on my 3rd sound system layout. I’m currently working on a custom fiberglass enclosure for 2 10’s that will fit behind the seats (kinda like the JL Audio stealthbox on steroids).

I will post some pictures when I get it up and working.
