I have an Orion Cobalt 230 Amp and 1 Pyle 10" Subwoofer.
I was thinking about using the large rear bay in the coupe as "box."
I'm not looking for competition sound just a little more umpf.
Now bear with me, I'm the ME that didn't pay much attention the EE classes.
Should I, shouldn't I?
What additional components do I need? And could some one give me a short order of operations.
Is that the 2 by 30watt at 4 ohm stereo and 120 watts into a mono 4 ohm amp?
It's fairly easy to make a new cover plate and mount the 10" Pyle to it, the just use a rubber gasket or seal type material to seal the 10 in an infinate baffle configuration.
99HT has posted several tech bulletins about adaptation of the factory wiring and attachment points, ie for signal to amp. Other than that it's a fairly simple process. Any other questions drop a line.
It has a Left and Right output (RCA female) so I'd assume 2 x 30 then.
How do I wire it to only power one sub, or rather which output to use? Is there a crossover involved, etc. etc.?
Thx
It should have a printed marking on the speaker terminal showing how to bridge the amplifier(if possible). It's been a whiole since I've seen a Cobalt amp or speaker, so a little patience. The amplifier should be stable into a 4 Ohm mono load, which should be = to drive one sub at a moderate level. However being a smaller output rated amp, it may not suit your listening preferences (however I'm taking a guess).
Best bet is to take it to a local stereo shop if any doubt persists and have them inspect it to see if it will work for your application. If they try to sell you anything right off the batt, just turn around and walk. Good Luck :yesnod:

The amplifier will have a section on the rca side which denoted the crossover if built in. If memory serves the Cobalt models with the crossover were model #230XC or 230XE. If there is no x-over, than an in-expensive one can be bought, or even a choke/low pass coil can be used.
