I am going to make a sub enclosure behind the seats in a C6 vert. For the power, I am going to use arc mini 500.1 amp. Anybody has recommendations for subs for this location? I would like to put 10" in there, something similar to the following picture: (courtesy of v8rx7com):
Yes, I have a Vert. And yes, you are right. It is harder to get good bass from a Vert - with the top down.
Some people even have bass speakers underneath that trunk carpet overlay and it's no obstacle. Low frequency waves can travel.
Getting good bass with the top down is a much bigger challenge than getting good bass from the trunk. In this instance, the distance or the fact is may have to go through a folded up canvas top aren't really obstacles.
What kind of mounting depth are you looking at? I know that kicker comps are able to be mounted in pretty shallow boxes, but higher quality JLs will need quite a bit of space to mount, plus you will need bigger box for required square footage.

I believe it will be close to 7". In terms of volume of the box, I do not know yet. I guess it will be close to 0.5 cu ft.
Both Pioneer and JL make excellent shallow mount woofers. The 8" inch Pioneer can take anything from free air to 0.5. The 8" JLs work with anything from .45 and up.
The 10" woofers are bit a of a challenge. The Pioneer can go as low as .45 but I think the JLs require a bit more.
BTW, the shallow mount Pioneers got excellent reviews on Crutchfield. If you can find the volume for a JL woofer, go for it. But if you are short on volume, those Pioneers may work.
