Whining Amp?

I am a C3er posting this question for my dad who just bought a 86. The speakers emit a whining sound that varies with enging rpm...seems to only happen with the radio off. Im guessing this is the amp being not turned off with the radio??? Could someone lend some tech support on how to correct this. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the amplifier relay is stuck on. Try pulling the amplifier relay and see if the alternator whine stops. Amp relay is behind the instrument panel on the right side of the radio and has a pink, black, orange, and pink/blk stripe wire on the socket.

And if that doesnt work you will want to put a noise suppressor on the power going into the HU. :)

could be a bad ground, but if it does it only with the stereo off..then im unsure :cheers:

All the above apply as long as the system is stock. If its not, there are a nice long list of items to go over.
