Hi guys...has anyone heard of this problem before???
Started having a strange problem over the past 3 days, though the stereo has not been touched since it was installed 2 months and about 5000 miles ago.
The car is a 2001 6 speed coupe with an MTI 382 motor.
Stereo consists of a Kenwood Z828, 12 disc changer, JL audio 3 way components, 2 JL audio amps (300/2 and 250/1), stock rear speakers, and a 12W3. Sirius is also connected, and a V1 was hardwired by the shop that did the install, all about 2 months ago.
I pulled the V1 out on Monday to send it in for servicing...not sure if this could have any bearing on the problem...doubt it, as the symptoms began the next day.
Over the past few days, when I pull the key out, the car will chime like the key is still in for a few secs, and the radio will continue to play...it will then shut off, and the security light will blink about 10 times, then the chime will start again, and the radio will spontaneously start up again as if the key was inserted...it continues to cycle like this for up to 20 minutes (!) but the cycles seem to get progressively shorter, until it finally stops!
Everything works fine when the car is running.
Doesn't matter if the doors and/or hatch are open or closed, it will do the same thing either way.
I have been leaving the car disarmed, since the alarm is triggered by this.
In response to my having trouble with the amps cutting out briefly when switching from CD to radio, the stereo shop has wired the amps into some constant power source so that they are always on when the key is on, regardless of whether the radio is on or not.
The cycling effect is very predictable...kind of eery...any advice would be appreciated before I take it in to them!!!

Since you have an aftermarket radio, the BCM can no longer control the radio. The BCM senses your key. I question how the stereo shop wired up your new system. Where did the stereo shop get switched power? Something is fishy.
If you're gonna let the shop get away with triggering the amps from a switched source (instead of the HU) then they should use the yellow aux wire bundled down in the passenger footwell next to the BCM. But personally, I wouldn't settle for that as a solution.
Your new HU must also be switched from that same yellow aux wire. There is no switched source in the factory HU harness for them to use. Maybe they didn't know that and tapped into it anyway.
Ask them to wire the HU switched source wire to the yellow aux wire, and trigger the amps from the HU's trigger wire.
