I have Borla Stingers on my 02 coupe. I love the powerful sound, but hate the metallic drone at certain speeds which even a layer of dynamat and lux liner pro can't seem to reduce enough.
In an attempt to reduce the resonance of my Borla Stingers, I'm considering applying a vibration dampener material to the muffler tubes themselves. I'm curious if anyone knows the temperature rating of the various sound deadening materials (sheet, spray or paint) to figure if this is a viable option.
I've never looked for it, but I don't think you'll find anything worth a flip for noise reduction that you can paint/spray on and will hold up to exhaust temps. Maybe you can try something like header/exhaust wrap, it should help some if located properly.
The drone is the result of what's going on inside the 'pipes'. The diameter, length, expansion in the muffler, etc. Basically the tuning.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything more you can do to the outside of the exhaust system to significantly alter what's being generated from within.
