04 Z06 Stereo Problem
This is a Non-CD stock headunit. The front speakers have no sound coming from them. The rears play some music, but it doesn't get any louder than about 10-15%. Would you think this is a headunit issue since it's related to the volume? Would he be able to pick up another stock headunit and the issue be fixed or do you think it's a speaker issue?
You say "non-CD", if that also means non-Bose then I'd put a good chunk of money on the radio itself being bad, but I thought all C5's came with Bose by '04.
If it is Bose, then it could be the radio (only amp in C5 is internal to the radio), or it could be the Bose processor, or possibly just that the radio isn't properly powering the processor.
C5 prints are HERE if you have a meter and are willing to poke around with it. My first check would be the dark green wire (circuit 145) for +12v when radio is on.
If it were me and I wasn't able to troubleshoot the wires, I'd prob find a cheap oem C5 radio and swap it out. If still available you can get one for free HERE

The car does have the bose system, but has a non-bose headunit. Needless to say, we snagged a bose unit off ebay that should be here middle of the week.
Looks like the previous owner tried to make a few bucks before selling it.
If the new HU doesn't make it all better, you'll need to look in the doors to see if the speakers are there, and if they're plugged in.
If oem gear is removed it would be easiest (and prob cheapest) to put in a modest aftermarket setup.
