I want to rip out BLOSE entirely. Replacing head unit, speakers, adding 2 amps, and running wire to my JL Stealth Box. I should be able to use the stock enclosures. Nothing special or custom. I intend to purchase equipment on web and have local store install. Installation will take place in NYC, Long Island, NJ, or Pennsylvania.
Typical installation costs are $50-$100 an hour.
Deck, 1 hour
Speakers, one pair, 1 hour(2 for seperates)
Amps, 2 hours each amp
You get the idea. Also, many shops will not install customer equipment though some will do the installation if you buy at least a piece or two from them. Lastly, the warranties may be voided if you don't buy from them. Hope this gives you the realistic deal.
One place in Connecticut quoted me:
$500 to buy and install 2 sets of JL XR650-CX
$240 to install my existing 2 Soundstream Amps
$75 to install my existing Head Unit
$50 to install my existing CD Changer
Fuses and Wiring Included
I get the feeling I am getting ripped off. I am considering installing the speakers, running the wires from the speakers to the rear, and the wires from the HU to the amp myself and have him do the rest. Is this a good idea?
You may want to call my old shop and see what he can do for you. Highway Audio in Edison, NJ. They are about 30 min from the Holland Tunnel. Putting in the speakers is the hardest of the operations. Next the amp, and finally the deck. Don't bite off more than you can chew. If you feel you can do it yourself, go for it.
Highway's been there 30 years. I was an installer there for 3 during college. Good work, insured, guarenteed, professional. Talk to the owner Alan or if he's still there Peter, the head salesman and mention my name, Greg Bender.
