my 87 vett has the Delco Bose cassette deck. The radio plays fine. The cassette player sounds mushy part of the time. the heads are clean. The speakers cut of part of the time. If I slap the side of the consol they'll come back to life. Some time just cranking up the volume will cause the speakers to cut in and out. What sould i do, junk it? What should I replace it with? What about speakers? What do I need to buy without hocking the farm? Give me the whole shot. thanks. James in Clovis ca
Re: What should I replace the Bose with? (james holley)
The system was crappy and outdated the day the car was built compared to other systems of the day. I would replace it with a CD head unit and 4 speakers: 6x9 rear and 5.25 front doors. I like the pioneer 4400 and Boston Acoustics RX series coax for great sound and not breaking the bank.
Try yahoo and pricegrabber for the deck. You will also want a kit and harness. Both of these you can get for a total of $30 from any sterio shop.
The speakers can be found at tms electronics. Figure this setup runs about $500.
Hope this helps.
