Kenwood DNX890HD
Metra GMOS-04 (I know, I know .. but I want to keep OnStar)
PAC SWIRC
This setup worked correctly when I tested it before buttoning up the console. Since I put everything back together, I get audio (radio, nav, etc.) only when the chimes are sounding. The chimes sound through the speakers, not through the Metra unit.
I thought I must have broken a connection during reassembly, but I've opened it up again and everything is connected as it was, except that the HU's dimmer wire is no longer connected to the dimmer wire for the TC button.
I tried reconnecting the OEM unit, and that works just fine. I made sure that the tone controls were all set at 0 before removing it.
I read a suggestion in another thread about bypassing the GMOS for the amp and antenna triggers. Not sure whether that's worth trying.
Larry,
Did you connect up the mute wire on the kenwood?
Steven
Yes. I tried disconnecting the mute wire, but that did not make a difference.

I am using the blue/white wire. I have it connected to both of the blue/white wires on the GMOS harness. The Kenwood solid blue wire (antenna control?) is not connected.
Larry
There is also an ATT or mute button on the front of the Kenwood 890 lower left
Make sure you did not hit this or if it says ATT on screen then you do not have the mute wire connected.

you will want to connect the blue wire if you do anything with AM and you will not get any AM reception at all without the blue antenna connected on the Kenwood

ATT is not on. Mute wire (the brown wire on the Kenwood, right?) is connected.

be careful as there is a blue pink on the gmos harness for speed control..... not two blue white
I guess my eyes are not that good anymore. Both look blue/white to me. But one of them says "AMP TURN-ON" (it's pin 5), while the other says nothing (pin 15). So I guess it's the AMP TURN-ON wire that should be connected to the Kenwood blue/white and blue.
My next challenge is figuring out how to get more volume out of the DNX890HD. While I was installing the unit, I adjusted the GMOS-04 to turn down the volume of the chimes. I did this with the HU off (at least I did during the final adjustment).
I'm finding that at highway speed, I have to turn the volume up to the max to even have a reasonable sound level. Same for the NAVI voice.
Is this a problem with a wire connection, or is it an adjustment on the GMOS? (Silly me, I've already put the console back together.)
Hey Larry
I still think you need to go into the settings and start adjusting everything. You should not lose any volume with the Kenwood. Once you get the settings dialed in you should be fine.
Sounds like you are going to have to adjust the adapter back up a little bit... I know that's not what you wanta to hear but I ran into the same thing on my last install and noticed volume on radio had to be maxed out to get any kind of loudness. Once I found a happy medium between chimes and radio volume all was good. That gain control on the adapter controls any audio whatsoever being passed through the adapter
