I know next to nothing about car audio. But whenever Im in a car that i feel has a spectacular sound system I always consistently notice two things
1) the presence of a subwoofer
2) their interior rattles and squeaks a lot
Ive never witnessed a vette with a woofer but I have a C5 and would like to get one but I do not want my interior to undo itself and start squeaking alot more (already some noises in the cabin from various pieces). So my question is has your interior started making a lot more unwanted noises since the addition of a subwoofer?
Check out JL'S microsubs---I listened to a 8" CP108lg ported sub and it BLEW ME AWAY!!
Sounded more like a 12" but cleaner. It also fit perfectly in the rear center well with no screws/fasteners of any kind--the cover fit back over it w/no problam...and due to the type of hookup it has(2 rca jacks) you can remove it easily or set it on top of the well if you want. It does require a decent amp but for around 6-700.00 installed at a bonifide installer(includes the amp, the line level adapter, install kit and the volume ****) I don't think there is a better system for the C5 or any hatchback/truck/small car for that matter.
There is also a twin 8" available if you want to give up the trunk space. Read the reviews at Crutchfield.com for more info. I was ready to go with a custom 10" w/amp set-up with a local shop(he makes the top to set in the well) for around 650.00 but after hearing this and reading what others have said I'm making my appointment for installing it this Sat. Will let you know after all is done.

Wow, this reply has really gone above and beyond what I was asking for. You also answered my next question about recommendations for various setups and stayed around my price range. Im very interested in hearing how you like this setup. Thanks for the response!!
I have a 12" JL W7 in my C6 but have sound deadened the major areas and added mass loaded vinyl which makes a huge difference. Minimal rattles even though the W7 has massive output. My current system is one of the best I've ever heard, the installer did a great job. Active speakers and a sound processor makes a huge difference in sound quality. Current equipment is:
Kenwood DNX9140 head unit
12" JL Audio W7 sub in ported box to JL specs
CDT ES-62 speakers with upgraded tweeters
JL Audio HD600/4 to run the speakers active
JL Audio Slash 1000/1 sub amp
Audison BitOne sound processor
Sound deadener and mass loaded vinyl in trunk floor and doors
I ran a Kicker S10L7 in my C5, then switched to a Polk Audio MOMO 12 dvc driver. Both fit easily in a box made of MDF. I mounted the amp on the back wall, right above the sub, on a MDF board secured to the car.
The sub box design I did in AutoCAD is in the C5 FAQ. (It's in pdf format.) The pics of the Polk install are here on the site somewhere. You can get setup for a heck of a lot less than $700... if you do some work yourself.

Damn, thats a lot of bass for a Corvette. How did you even get that back there? Have any pics you can share with us. Curious to see how its mounted.
I have a 10W3v2 Stealthbox powered with 300/2v2 in mine and it sounds/feels pretty darn good, cant image the teeth rattling a W7 can do.

I just used the ported box that the guy who sold me the W7 built for himself. It was just short enough that I can still see out of the back window. Tried to see if there was a way to fiberglass the sub into a more stealthy box, but it's too big for that. The W7 gets pretty damn loud, sounds incredible.
