Re: I've got a lengthy sub question (M396 #00-011)
an 8" sub breaking a window? What kind of window... a Mustang? All kidding aside, that's a bit exaggerated, considering the excursion of a single 8" sub, even your best is far too small to create such a low resonance.
The enclosure is everything, whether you prefer sealed, bandpass, or ported is entirely up to you. If you're looking for good clean bass, it's gotta be a sealed enclosure. And choose an amplifier that exceeds recommended power handling (Go American, they're usually the most powerful). Remember, when you have a little more power, at least you can turn it down. When you don't have enough, what are you going to turn up? Sorry guys, THD on sub amps is overrated and usually brought up by engineers. ;)
- Build the right enclosure
- Tune the box right
- Get more power/make sure your alternator's up to par
- Get a GOOD American sub amp
and presto......... you have good, clean, bass.
Of course, a hatchback vehicle with sound deadening material wouldn't hurt.
Re: I've got a lengthy sub question (M396 #00-011)
budget? well, i get minimum wage at CVS and bring home like 70 a week, I'm only 16, and college, and just, I don't want to spend all my money on my car stereo(did i mention i drive an escort wagon? 94) i will consider ebay, considering i don't even care about subs that much, the only reason i was leaning toward jensen was because of the 2 free subs, it was the right amount of power i needed, it was cheap, and it looked ok i knew it wouldnt be great(otherwise it'd be like selling a c5 for $10,000 and a free mansion to go with it) but yeah im poor, i just want clean musica, and i dont even need it to last for more than like 3 or 4 years.....
i will def. check out ebay, though
THANKS GUYS!
Ebay is good. Also, look for used stuff, stuff at shops that is leftovers, discontinued, demos, etc. You can usually get stuff real cheap that way. As for power, the rating system is not standardized. 50w of Jensen is not the same amount of power as a 50w Rockford fosgate, which again is different from a 50w A/D/S. They use different parameters measuring power. You get what you pay for with amps generally. The worst example I saw was a 2000w pyramid eq. It was 1/2 din size and had 16 gauge power wires and weighed about 4 ounces. It really made about 6wx4 but the were able to legally call it a 2000w eq because they were able to measure a 2000w output from it. To do this they plugged it into a wall socket. When it exploded and fried it sent a 2000w surge out the speaker wires. If you are serious about a sub, I'd look for a decent used amp with built in sub crossover that makes 200w bridged @ 2 ohm and get a single 10" dual voice coil 4 ohm sub, put it in a sealed or ported box homemade box, and enjoy. I'll post something to get you started. http://www.mmxpress.com had a 420w amp with crossover from audiobahn for $210 and some decent kicker 10" subs for 85$ With wires, box materials you are under $350 for decent bass. Just an idea.

heh heh heh heh heh.........
How about THIS :-D(in penguin man voice, of course) http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...s&i=235USX406B
65 watts per speaker!!
That'd be all I need, I could always run tri mode :-\ but I don't want distortion out of my back speakers, and my receiver doesn't have 5ch output, but it's good, right??
