Anybody using an iPad Mini as a head unit?

Seems that with Google Maps and Siri, iTunes and Spotify or Pandora and an unlimited data plan it would do more than a Kenwood or Pioneer unit, if it could output to an amp with decent quality.
Anybody?
Audio output quality shouldn't be an issue. The thing I've never seen a good device for is how to turn it on/off automatically with the car, but I don't wonder out of the CF Audio forum on any regular basis.
Check out this site, I've been wanting to do this, but it can get pricey quick. $620 for parts (with his package "deals"). Then you have to have an iPad as well.
In all honesty, his prices are downright insane... for a custom fab of your dash, its $1,200.00... oh yeah, you remove it yourself and send it in. Thats all you get too, a dash with a hole in it that fits an iPad, mailed back in 3-4weeks.
Anyway, the info is legit and really helpful. He even has the parts you'd need to make it work in a few different variations. You could do it in a weekend if you were super dedicated/determined/organized.
