I need some Diode Help
When 12 volts from the Back Up lights is applied the rear camera wire, it pre empts anything and switches to camera.
It works fine, but I also want to put a switch under the dash so I can turn on the camera without having the back up lights come on. A friend said he thinks I need a Diode to block the 12 volts from going back to the back up lights and turning them on. Thats the extent of his knowledge LOL. Thats like Chinese to me.
Can some tell me what diode I need, can I get it at Radio Shack ? There is no real current consumption as its just a signal line. Then how do I wire it between the back up lights and the aux switch I will install to power the signal line when I dont want the back up lights on.
One other question, once in a while, and getting more frequent, the CD will not load and gets immediatelly ejected.
Does this sound like a dirty LED ? How can I clean the LED.
Many Thanks

If yes, make sure the camera itself is powered from a switched source (not the reverse wire) and your problem is solved.
If no, you'll need to install a diode. You can get one at RS, I'd look for one good for about 50v and in the 2-5 amp range. The diode would have to go between the reverse wire and where you tap into the camera power wire with your switch power. If you can't push a button on the HU I can draw a simple diagram. Google 'diode polarity' and look at the images to see how to connect it.
