Ticking noise when using ipod through PAL
On Saturday I took the plunge and converted my 2007 Bose system to 6.5" alpine components up front and 5.25" alpines in the rear powered by an alpine amp. I have another mono amp wired and ready to receive a double d stealthbox/sub setup that will arrive in a week or so.
I'm not much of an audio person but even without the sub installed the system sounds night and day better than the Bose. The only problem I'm having is that when I'm using my Iphone routed through the GM PAL on the "XM2" band, I get a ticking noise through the speakers. It doesn't increase with engine rpm and it doesn't necessarily get louder with volume, but I feel like its affecting the sound quality overall.
I also have some hissing through the speakers in any band/mode when the volume is all the way down. I used 18ga wire since I wasn't doing anything too powerful, should I have gone with 16ga or even 14ga?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
~Tom
iPod clicking sounds familiar, but I can't quite remember why. Might have something to do with the battery charging, or maybe being fully charged, something like that. Try running the ipod battery down to 50%, then plug it in to car and see if clicking goes away until it hits full charge.
The ticking is really the greater nuisance at this point. I saw the post about the ipod charging supposedly having to do with noise. I use my iphone with is never fully charged, so I don't see that making a difference in this case. I have to remember to try my regular ipod and see if it makes a difference. However, IIRC the XM2 band makes the noise even without anything connected.
