Default Help troubleshooting

So, I have always had a weak stereo from when I bought the car. Basically no bass what so ever.

After speaking with dennis some time ago, he said I should pull the door panels and check to see if the stock speakers are even in place. Well I left it there and never did pull them, just because I didn't want to deal with the hasel.

However, while I had the car at the dealer the other day for a window reg repair, I recalled the conversation and had them look for me.

They confirmed that in fact there ARE aftermarket speakers in the door.

It looks like a previous owner put the stock HU back in, but left the aftermarket speakers in the car.

That all said, I have great mids and highs, but no bass. So I am trying to figure out what I should do at this point.

Obviously, the HU needs to go, however, I wasn't certain if the lack of bass was a function of how things are setup at the moment, or if it was something else.

Just looking for some advice on how to proceed next.

I'll bet the previous owner removed an aftermarket sub. I'd get a new head unit, amp and sub with an enclosure. If you're OK with the mids and highs the added sub should fill it out.

I considered that idea directly as well. My hesitation is, I am afraid of becoming "that guy with the vibrating hatchback" you know the one. Sub vibrates the hatch back annoyingly every time it hits.

I would also PREFERE to just not run a sub if possible, and keep it all behind the body panels. I was hoping the way the Stock HU was setup that maybe no bass signal was even being sent to them, hence the lack of a bottom end.

So that just swapping a new head unit might bring some life into things.

Any chance you know what model the speakers are? If you know how much power they can handle, adding an aftermarket amp would make up for not having a sub.

If you do install a sub, make sure the license plate and frame are tight and it won't buzz

No I don't... If I am lucky they might have written it down on the service ticket. I'll have to take a look.

If not, I have a feeling I will be pulling door panels myself finally to see what is actually going on behind them.

That all said, none of the tell tale signs are in the trunk area from a sub amp install. No holes in the carpet, etc. ? So if he did install one, he was careful enough to keep things from damaging anything.

I noticed a interior push pin missing in the back trim as well. So I am pretty confident if the fronts are changed, so are the rears.

Which is easier to get at? Fronts or rears?

Rears don't matter it's the fronts you need to look at
