Default Who has only door speakers and a sub?

This week I will order FOCAL Performance separates for the doors and a single Focal 10" sub for the cubby hole using a Kenwood XR900/5 5 channel mini amp to go with the stock Bose for my 2005 cope (from Double D)

You guys with this type of setup, are you pleased with the improvement over stock BOSE?

For now, I will keep the bose until spring and then get a new hi-end head unit with NAV/XM and get a 2nd sub maybe

I have a C5 with doors + sub. I'm pleased, although we're stuck with either custom A-pillar tweeter mounts or low in the door by the woofer. Relative to cars with a-pillar or mirror mounted tweeters, I feel like my sound isn't as clear.

Thanks, I know tweets on my front pillar made a big diff in my 1985 C4

Absolutely, very happy with fronts and a sub. I have only 1 car out of the last 10 that has rear speakers, and they are needed to bring the sound stage up a little higher. They are high mounted 4x6 in the rear, and the front stock locations are very low in the door.
But all my Vettes have the rears disconnected.
People that get in my cars and listen to the system are totally amazed, most comments are along the lines of, "Holy Crap I feel like I am on stage with the band," or "man, this system is like being at the concert."

According to google results the PC130 are 5.25" coaxials. That amp will do 150x2 bridged, so why not get 6.5" components that can handle the power and you won't need to add any more amps/speakers later (and it will sound great).

Well powered fronts and a quality sub are all a vette needs with everything tuned properly

thanks markcz.......Dennis quoted me Components not coaxial, so I guess it is the PS-165 speakers......my mistake on that, so it sounds like I will be doing well

Also, it sounds like front separates and A-pillar with Tweeters is the way to go.

Thanks to Dennis at DD!

But what really helped was me taking my wife for a drive with the top down late Saturday night, she said, "this stereo sucks, it sounds like AM radio!" ... nuff said!

I did not have enough cash to go all the way but I hope this is a decent start, the so I ordered this today.

Depends on how loud you like to listen to your music.

I have a single 10" (Rockford Fosgate P3 shallow mount) driven by 300 watts, and I can listen to anything clearly at freeway speeds with the top off. No one believes I have a single 10" back there.

Exactly

300w will be plenty for the sub, even with the top out.

Same here. I have >250wRMS in each door, with 150 of that going to a 6.5" at 80Hz, then 350w to a single 10" in the trunk. If I crank up Nickelback with the windows up I can convince people I'm running two 12" subs.

But it also depends on your tune settings. I have mine set to 'sound good to me' when I'm doing 80 on I-20 with the windows down and volume on 15. In the garage or at a stop light with windows up that sounds very bass heavy, but I like bass so that's not an issue for me

This is all I will have for wattage

5-channel amplifier
60 watts RMS x 4 + 400 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
75 watts RMS x 4 + 600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
150 watts RMS x 2 bridged at 4 ohms + 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms

Which sub did you get (how many coils and what ohm rating for each coil)?

Focal Performance P25DB DVC 4OHm sub preloaded.
Highlights:
10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
power range:
50-250 watts RMS
peak power handling: 500 watts
Sub has 2 coils, 4ohms each.

Did DDmods mention anything about "serial 8ohms" or "parallel 2ohms" when connecting the sub to the amp you got?

If the amp will put out >200wRMS at 8ohms then it should work great with sub coils in series, but I don't know off hand if it will be happy there. If you connect it in parallel the amp will see 2ohms and you'll have to turn the gain down a lot to prevent distortion.

Read lesson 58 HERE if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about

Running 6.5 hybrid audio clarrus and 2-10" arc audio subs in a DD Mods box and the sound is amazing. I have a single 10" in my convertible and it sounds good but not as much punch as the twins. You will not be sorry in the upgrade.

I ran a single Polk MOMO DVC 12" sub and a pair of Pioneer Premier TS-C720 PRS in my C5, powered by an Xtant 603 amp. It sounded really good for what it was.

Thanks guys, I can add another sub in the future if it is lacking. I only want decent sound with the windows down, I don't take the top of very often. I do not blast my music, pretty much just 70's rock and some jazz.

My C4 had 10 speakers, 2-pillar tweets, separates in the doors, coax's in the rear and two 8" subs in the cubby holes, so I am anxious to see how the C6 with separates in the door and one 10" sub will sound.

Running Focal PS-165 components up front with a JL HD900/5 and a 12w6 - sounds great, easy to listen to music at highway speed even with the top off

I do want to convert down to 2 10s however, probably TW3s.

Good to know, I'm in a holding pattern till I hear the setup

I modded the old Bose pods in the front to mount 6.5"s then put 2 6 inch subs where the old rear speakers where (92 vert) an Alpine head unit with the 32 bit Burr Brown chip really made the difference..as well as recovering the speaker grills with real speaker cloth..thay made a huge difference, a 5 channel amp powers it up and so far sound pretty good for a vert.
