Need help with EQ and Head Unit in dash

Might have been mine- or not? Below is a quick sketch of what I did, starting with a couple L-shaped sheet metal brackets from Home Depot. They are vertical and protrude maybe 1/2" to 3/4" on each side; with appropriate holes drilled they should resemble the mounting ears of the factory stereo. The sides of the bracket are flush against the components for a couple inches, drilled appropriately to use the side mounting holes.
Further back the HU/EQ are strapped together with pieces of that metal strap that comes with your HU; the two essentially become a single 1-1/2 DIN assembly that bolts in just like the factory stereo. Additionally I used a rear support back into the frame because the plastic dash seemed weak; and of course so no thief could ever get that thing out.
You just need to decide the direction of the bracket (forward or backward facing) depending on the mounting holes on the side of your components, and where to drill the side mounting holes to get the components at the depth you want. I did mine essentially flush (maybe protruding 1/8") and filled the gap between the components and the trim panel with black foam weatherstrip. You could get fancier and cut a piece of ABS plastic to make a filler panel.
