I plan to install a new system in the next few weeks. A buddy of mine said that I should install a set of tweeters in the doors in the stock speaker locations AND ones in the a-pillars ...
Originally I planned to install them in the doors only to keep the stock look ... does the second set make any sense to install? if so ... where on the a-pillar should I install them? high up near the roofline or down near the dash?
Oh ... if it matters ... the system is for a 2001C5 (my dads car)
Um.. that might end up being an imaging nightmare.
Get a SINGLE pair of good tweeters, like TN51's
I think you can run them at upwarsd of 80-100 watts
Well the speakers I plan to install are MB Quart Q's ... or Boston Acoustics (all depends on price) ... both have the ability to amplify the tweet separatly ... so I can run the mid-range at 75W and the tweets at 75W ... on each side ... out of all of those locations above what would be the best?

That's the setup I have and it sounds great. Your friend is on the right track.
Ideally, tweeters should be as close to the mids as possible,w ithout obstruction
and if you want good soundstage/imaging, don't get rear speakers. Just spend all your money on a great front stage.
Oh I know ... I plan to play around with tweeter placement on the pillars and in the door ... I think that I will install a killer front stage and just use my rear locations as a place to put lights and strobes into to create a light show ...
I think you'd end up with a better stereo.. spending money on audio components instead of strobe-y rice components :p:
I have a small (4 piece) kit that I got for Free ... it's 2 blue LED's and 2 Blue 4 inch neons ... I just plan to install in the rear speaker holes to get a cool effect ... switched of course ...
I would never separate tweeters driving the same audio signal by more than a couple inches! Say it with me now: major phase distortion and destructive interference patterns.
The whole reason stereo works- from the recording to the mixing to the playback- is the assumption that your left and right speakers resemble point sources. That is why we keep the drivers as close as possible; and if multiple drivers are needed, they are stacked vertically- never separated horizontally. Pick one tweeter location that is close to the midbass and offers un-obstructed sound.

Oh ... I know that now ... we just played around with some tweets in my friends Taurus ... and it was nasty ..
