According to a local shop, there is no advantage to get 3-ways ... he said that they were only made because some German cars used them in a past.
What are the major differences?
The install is in a C5 Corvette...
No rear speakers will be installed ...
There is a budget so cost would allow high quality 2-ways ....
With a 2 way design there is a compromise in that a single speaker has to fill the dual role of midrange & woofer. In a 3 way system there is a separate driver handling each of those chores and they are both better suited to deliver their narrower frequency range than a single speaker possibly can. Having a dedicated (smaller) mid driver is the real benefit, larger diameter speakers do not reproduce the critical midrange frequencies as accurately as smaller drivers.
Noel from AutoBuffs 3 way setup looks reallygood :yesnod: , all included in door plate. I went with a radical approach which gets me buy but won't win any beauty contests.

Yeah I saw the pics ... its looks good ... I think that its all a matter of space management ... they will fit ... I know of many that have 3 ways in smaller doors...
First question is whether you're going to use a sub; if not you're going to need the largest drivers you can fit (6.5 / 8 round or 6x9) to get some bass. In that case you'd definitely want something smaller 4-5" for the midrange and a 3way is warranted.
If you're using a sub (which you ought to be if you post to this forum ;) ) you don't need a big mid/woofer; a 5.25" paired with a tweeter that reaches down to 2kHz or so is perfect. Remember- the fewer x-overs the better; even well-designed ones will shift phase/group delay. Roll the midbass off gradually (6dB/oct) and the tweeter sharper to protect it (18dB/oct). Also the more drivers you have the more difficult it is to mount them all so they approximate a point source (for imaging); and their arrival times at your ear coincide. You might also look at coincidentally mounted components- they look like typical 2 or 3way but are built with good drivers and require external x-overs. I think MBQuart and Vifa have them.
I've never used anything but 2ways + sub; always worked fine for everything from classical to jazz to rock (and even a little tiny bit of techno).
I understand that 2-ways are good ... and yes I am using a sub ... but I think 3-ways will still be helpful ... I have gotten a lot of responses on a car audio forum ... they said 3-ways will be better ... especially beause I have no rears ...
oddly enough .... After posting this on many different forums, I have found out that either will be good ... but if I have the space 3-ways will help all around.
So I plan to get 3-way components ... now its only a matter of which ones ....
3way will sound better and cost more. If you can fit them easily and afford them, go for it.
I can afford the MB Quart's and I bid on some Boston Acoustics on e-bay ... if I win the auction ... I will be happy ... I already won 2 amps today :smash: ... all 3 are from the same person so I can save on shipping too!!!
Yep, just what Budda said. More control and better seperation from a 3way. However the space needed is the only downfall.
There is plenty of space... More control... Better sound, especially if not using rear fill!
I actually planned to get those Diamond Audio Speakers then found out you need 2 x-overs for each side ??? ... I am looking into the MB Quart PSD 316's or the Boston Acoustic 6.5^3 ... the Bostons are able to handle 500W each ... and the sound great ... and the MB's sound great ... but I cannot find a local shop that has them in stock to sell because I do not want the floor model ...
