I have been wanting a back up camera in my 08 z06 for some time now but I love my factory nav radio so upgrading it was never a real option. has anyone thought about using a rear view mirror from the newer truck that has the screen built it? im thought being that doing it that way you could keep the onstar and other features located on the factory mirror. just an idea and wanted to see what some of you guys thought or if it would even be possible.
It's available.
The Car Audio shop told me 250.00 installed for a backup camera rear view mirror setup.
It comes on in the mirror when you put the car in reverse.
Here's what's available on ebay if you want to do it yourself
unfortunately, the lockpick 360 is no longer available to purchase.
A new rear view mirror is an option, or you can go the route I took and remove the driver's side vanity mirror and put a monitor in it's place.
It's a pretty easy DIY project.
Interesting but nothing for 2011 and up. Any other idea I am also looking to a rear camera integrated to my nav system
Without getting an aftermarket unit, you are limited to what you can do for a monitor for a back up camera.
There are places that you can put the monitor that are out of the way (see above to what I did)
One can also mount a monitor with a hinge bracket, so it folds out of sight when not in use. I made one of those initially, but really liked the sunvisor space better.
I realy like the sunvisor idea, any write up on how you did it or what monitor you used? that is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for
I just bought a generic 4.3'' Color TFT Car Monitor Support 480 x 272 Resolution from Amazon.
I bought the camera from the same place. There are various types of cameras and monitors.
Any 4.3" will fit nicely in a cut out of the vanity cover.
Here are the instructions that I made for this DIY.
I have extra NOMA clips if you need some, but those can be found at any Lowes or other department stores that carry outdoor string lights.
One thing that I forgot in my PDF, is the back of the monitor has a bracket mount built in. I actually removed the back cover and cut it out with side cutters. In the PDF, you can see the hole covered by gorilla tape. By cutting the mount from the cover, it allows the monitor to sit more flush into the sunvisor.
